MG MaestroMG Maestro family cars were produced during 1983-1991. The cars’ assembly was established at the factory in Cowley, the UK.
MG Maestro creation historyThe company began the production of the MG Maestro model in 1983. The cabin had four passenger seats. The car was released in five-door hatchback and three-door wagon bodies.
The front wheels were equipped with disc brakes and rear wheels – with drum brakes. MG Maestro cars had front independent and rear semi-independent suspension with coil springs.
A small radiator grille with a nameplate in the center was located between rectangular headlights. Narrow moldings belted the whole body. The car had plastic bumpers dyed in the main body color.
A trapezoidal power bulge was placed on the hood of MG Maestro. The side-view mirrors were colored to match the main body. The rear optics was assembled in two large rectangular units. The wide rear door was equipped with a wiper blade.
The luggage compartment’s volume of 300 liters could be easily enlarged to 1090 liters due to the folding rear seats. The car’s basic package included an audio system. The car had a 2510 mm wheelbase and its weight ranged between 1370 and 1560 kg depending on the modification.
Due to a perfect combination of comfort, affordable price and progressive technical equipment the MG Maestro became one of the best cars in its class. At first, only the lower reliability of the power units had a negative impact on the sales. In 1984 the manufacturer fixed the construction defects of the engines.
MG Maestro Turbo was presented at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1988. The car had a turbocharger unit and higher dynamic rates. Only 505 cars were released.
The seats of the MG Maestro had an advanced lateral support. The basic package included an onboard computer, an electronic engine control system, adjustable seat belts and electronic dashboard. The production of the car was finished in 1991.
MG Maestro on different marketsIn Europe, the car was also sold under the names of Austin Maestro and Rover Maestro.
