MG MGCMG MGC sport cars were manufactured during 1967-1969. Assembly lines were located in the UK and Australia.
MG MGC creation historyThe production of MG MGC began in 1967. The car had to replace the old-fashioned Austin-Healey 3000 on the market. The car was designed on the MG MGB basis and was released in coupe and roadster bodies.
Compared to the MG MGB, MG MGC cars were equipped with a heavier and more powerful engine. The new transmission of the car became more massive as well. The vehicle received a torsion suspension with telescopic shock absorbers instead of spring ones.
The developers failed to achieve an equal distribution of mass between axles. This factor and the higher dynamic rates had a negative impact on the model’s handling ability.
The car’s exterior design copied the MG MGB model with some slight changes. A distinctive feature of the MG MGC cars was a round power bulge on a bonnet. A massive radiator grille was located on the front of the body. The car had big round headlights of a “bug-eye” style. Turn indicators were located above the chrome metallic front bumper.
The roadsters were equipped with a cloth folding roof. Thin chrome moldings framed the whole body. Tail lights were located on a round “tailfins”.
In 1969 the production of MG MGC model was stopped due to an unreasonably harsh negative evaluation from the automotive press, as well as because of low demand. Totally, less than 8500 cars were released. Currently, the car is highly valued among collectors.
MG MGC on different marketsMG MGC US-Spec cars were produced specially for the US market. Their design has been brought into line with the requirements of local legislation.
