Daihatsu Charmant is a product of the Japanese Daihatsu company, manufactured between years 1974 and 1987. During this period, two generations and two restylings of the car in five-door sedan and station wagon bodies were presented. The manufacturing lines were located in Japan.

Daihatsu Charmant in a sedan body debuted on the market in 1974. A month later, station wagon cars were introduced, being positioned as commercial cars on the domestic market.

The front part of the Daihatsu Charmant was decorated by twin headlamps and a protruding bumper, which had chromium-plated turn indicators built-in. Depending on the package, side-view mirrors could be placed either on the front doors, or on the hood, closer to the headlights.

A distinct characteristic of package’s interior was a large, rectangular dashboard that took up a part of the front console. Aside from the basic dials and sensors, the developers have installed a wealth of additional ones which allowed the driver to monitor most of the car’s systems.

In 1978, a restyling of the Daihatsu Charmant took place, which resulted in the vehicle receiving a new radiator grille and moldings on the doors. The interior received insignificant changes - the developers changed the dashboard.

The second generation of Daihatsu Charmant has debuted during the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1981. A distinctive feature of the car’s exterior were its straight lines and angled shapes. Only rear-wheel drive sedans cars were available on the market. In Europe, the cars came in three package options: LC, LE and LGX. The most luxurious modification, which included a climate-control system, was called Altair in Japan.

The front axle of the Daihatsu Charmant had an independent suspension, while the back one - a four-link articulated axis. In order to attain maximum comfort, it was made soft by the company’s specialists.

Quality materials of light colors were used to decorate Daihatsu Charmant’s interior. All parts were perfectly fitted together.

In 1984, a restyling of the 2nd generation Daihatsu Charmant took place, with a slightly changed car interior as a result.

In 1987, Daihatsu Charmant was replaced by Daihatsu Applause.
