Ford KaFord Ka is the model produced since 1995 till present time. It is intended for the markets of Europe and South America. Assembling of Ford Ka is carried out at the plants in Spain, Italy, Brazil and in Poland. Today two generations of the model are released. Sales of cars of the third generation began in 2016. In 1997 Ford Ka took the second place in the "European Car of Year" competition, conceded superiority of Renault Mégane Scénic.
Ford Ka I generationFord Ka cars came to the stock production in 1996 though for the first time the model has been shown to public two years earlier at the motor show in Geneva. Release of the first generation was carried out till 2008.
Choosing a name for the new car, designers decided to use in the name the Ancient Egyptian word Ka designating human soul. It allowed Ford concern to advertize the new car as "The car with soul".
Ford Ka was constructed on the Ford B2 platform. In the beginning it was the three-door hatchback body, and in 2003 the sport three-door hatch-back of Ford Sport Ka and a cabriolet of Ford Street Ka appeared.
In design of the car oval shapes prevail: they are present both in an exterior, and in an interior — completely according to the New Edge concept.
Despite the compact sizes, Ford Ka is a full-fledged four-seater with quite spacious compartment. Thanks to good roadability and controllability, this model won considerable popularity among residents of megalopolises so in 2002 already million copies of Ford Ka were released.
Cars of the first generation were equipped with four-channel ABS (since 2007), side and frontal airbags, the conditioner, hydraulic power steering, central lock and so on.
Ford Ka II generationIn 2008 at the Parisian motor show the second generation of Ford Ka officially debuted. This model was designed together with Fiat concern and was constructed on the ZFA169 platform. Production is arranged in Poland and is carried out till today.
The designers of Ford Ka of the second generation increased the car sizes that allowed to expand the internal space. Length of a car remained former (3 620 mm), but height was increased by 92 mm (1413 against 1505 mm), and width — by 19 mm (1639 against 1658 mm). The car is offered in two complete sets — Ambiente and Titanium. Parking sensors, system of climate control, heating of a windshield, a leather inner trim and other were available as additional options.
Ford Ka III generationThe official debut of the city car Ford Ka III will take place in March, 2016. The new model will be constructed on the basis of Ford Ka Concept presented in Brazil in 2013.
The last generation of Ford Ka III will be widely available: the same model will be delivered for the markets of Europe, South America and India without significant differences in the price and technical characteristics.
Ford Ka in the markets of the different countriesFord Ka cars were made also for the Latin American market. The first generation of the Brazilian Ford Ka actually was a copy of the European car. But in 2007 in Brazil there was the second generation, and now the Latin American model was completely separated from the European one: Fords Ka in Brazil was constructed on the Ford B2 platform.
