Ford Galaxy: automatic gearbox problems, parking sensor faults, and other malfunctions
The Ford Galaxy has a large load capacity, plenty of room for passengers, and good build quality. Tall people can sit comfortably in any of the seven seats. Unfortunately, there are many common faults and problems. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Rear brake caliper/servo motor
Possible problems with the brake calipers and servo can manifest in many ways. Sticking calipers can cause squealing or grinding when braking, uneven pad wear, or pulling to one side. Signs of a bad servomotor include inconsistent or erratic movement, sticking or jerking, unresponsiveness to commands, noisy operation with grinding noises, and overheating.
Automatic gearbox
Ford has installed the Powershift automatic transmission in its vehicles which has been associated with several known problems. One is empty shifting, where the transmission may shift gears without engaging any of them, resulting in a lack of power transfer. Another is speed oscillation or fluctuation, where the car's speed can change unpredictably while driving. Stalling can also occur, where the engine stops unexpectedly. There have been cases of one of the two clutches failing, resulting in limited availability of certain gears, such as only having access to gears 1, 3, and 5. Finally, there can be a response delay, which causes a delay between when the driver initiates a gear change and when it is executed.

Starting problems
In winter or on colder days, a flat or weak Ford Galaxy car battery can make it difficult to start the engine. A common symptom is a struggling starter motor that has difficulty turning and starting the engine. In more severe cases, when the battery is severely discharged, you may only hear a faint clicking sound caused by the activation of a magnetic switch found in certain starter models. It is important to deal with a flat or weak battery promptly, either by recharging or replacing it, to ensure reliable engine starting.
If your battery is fine, the problem may be with your starter. The most common indication of a starter problem is pressing the start button or turning the key and getting no response. If the engine does not turn over even though the battery is functioning, this indicates a possible problem with the primary motor or solenoid, which may have burnt out. If you need to replace it, check here for the Ford Galaxy starter motor price. Typically, the starter is located on the underside of the engine where it connects to the flywheel. It is usually accessible from underneath the vehicle, so you may need to get to the engine compartment from underneath or remove certain components to gain access.
Parking sensor
If you take a look at popular car forums, you will see that many Galaxy owners have reported various issues with their parking sensors. These include faulty sensors leading to inaccurate readings or false alarms, sensor damage due to shock or corrosion, calibration problems affecting detection accuracy, and electrical problems such as loose connections, or faulty control modules.
Faulty windscreen wipers
These seem to have been the cause of many headaches for people who own a Galaxy.
Quite often, the wipers work perfectly one minute, and then stop working the next. This is most likely due to a blown fuse. To fix this, locate the fuse box, identify the windscreen wiper fuse, check that it has blown, take a look at Ford Galaxy spare parts and replace it with a new fuse of the same rating if necessary. Test the wipers after replacing the fuse.
Another cause could be a faulty Ford Galaxy windscreen wiper motor. The first sign is, of course, that the wipers have stopped working. If you don't hear any noise from the wiper motor when you switch them on, it's probably faulty.
Immobiliser problems
This can happen for a number of reasons. Sometimes the immobiliser system malfunctions, preventing the engine from starting or disabling the ignition. Problems with the key fob, such as a low battery or damage, can make it difficult to disarm the immobiliser. Malfunctioning wiring or connections can disrupt communication between different components. Faulty control modules can also be a culprit. To avoid these problems, it's important to check that your key fobs are in good condition and have working batteries.

Door lock
Problems can include power door lock failure, door locks sticking or jamming, keyless entry system malfunction, and door lock actuator noise. These are often due to mechanical issues such as faulty actuators, worn mechanisms, or obstructions in the locking mechanism.
Spare wheel carrier
You may be experiencing problems such as a stuck or jammed mechanism, difficulty lowering or raising the spare wheel, a rattling or loose spare wheel, and a malfunctioning locking mechanism. These issues may be due to rust, debris accumulation, mechanical malfunctions, faulty winch mechanisms, cable issues, insufficient lubrication, defective spare wheel holders, worn components, damaged locking mechanisms, or alignment problems.
Instrument cluster
The most commonly reported problems are incorrect or inconsistent readings for various gauges or indicators, such as speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, or warning lights possibly caused by faulty sensors or wiring problems.
Cruise control and panoramic roof problems
It is important to address any cruise control or roof issues before going on a long journey. These issues, such as cruise control failure or inconsistent operation, as well as water leaks or malfunctioning panoramic sunroof mechanisms, can affect the comfort, safety, and overall experience of your journey. To ensure a smooth and worry-free journey, we recommend that you have your vehicle inspected by a qualified technician for prompt diagnosis and any necessary repairs.
