Ford TransitFord Transit is a low-tonnage truck released from 1965 to the present. During production of this model more than 8 million cars were sold. Ford Transit takes the third place in the rating of the bestseller models in the class for all the time of existence of mechanical engineering.
Ford Transit 1965–1986The model was presented in 1965 for the first time and initially was released in Berkshire, England. Later cars were assembled at the plants of the company in Belgium, Turkey and the Netherlands. Elements of the Ford Taunus Transit and Ford Thames 400E models became a basis for Ford Transit of the first generation.
The car received a stylish front bumper, with round headlights and the radiator grille painted in tone of a body. It was offered in a three-door van body.
In March, 1978, designers presented cars of the second generation. Designers modernized the exterior design: the shape of the nose of the car was completely changed, and the shape of a body became more angular.
In 1984 designers upgraded the diesel engine. Besides, restyling of cars of the second generation was carried out: wider radiator grille was set , the front bumper was enlarged, the shape of front and back headlights was changed.
Ford Transit III generationFor the first time Ford Transit III was presented in 1986. It became the first car executed in design of "one-box". It meant that the cowl was approximately at one angle with a windshield. Also the car received large rectangular headlights and a plastic slip in the bottom of a front bumper.
In 1994 restyling of Ford Transit cars of the third generation was carried out. The car received the changed nose shape. In expensive complete sets electric power window, electric mirrors and air bags were installed.
Ford Transit IV generationPresented in 2000, the car received basic elements of New Edge style design— there was a stylish spherical false radiator grille, headlights received an original shape, and designers set relief strips along side doors. Side mirrors of the car were not painted. The car of the fourth generation won "The best truck of 2001 in the world" rank.
Ford Transit IV generation restylingIn 2006 the Ford company presented completely updated design of the Ford Transit model. Designers changed the shape of front headlights — they became pointed and were allocated over the radiator grille. Changes also concerned the car interior: the dashboard and a driver's seat were completely upgraded.
From this year producers expanded a range of bodies which nowadays consists of the minibus Kombi, Classic Cab, the minibus Toutneo, Classic Double Cab, Van and DCiV vans. These cars are sold till present.
Ford Transit V generationThe company presented the fifth generation of model for the first time in 2013 at the automobile exhibition in Detroit. Designers equipped some modifications of new cars with the Ti-VCT engine which requires the liquefied natural gas for operation.
Ford Transit in the markets of the different countriesIn 2006 there was the Chinese version of the Ford Transit car. It was produced for domestic market only and had some differences from the original. So, at the Chinese car front headlights were enlarged and the interior was significantly changed.
