Mitsubishi Carisma I generation
Mitsubishi Carisma of the first generation was produced from 1995 to 1999. The model was designed in cooperation with the Swedish concern Volvo Group and targeted the European market. More than 350 000 were produced in total.
The model was manufactured in five-door hatchback and sedan bodies. The optimum ratio of the price and quality was the greatest advantage of the car. The car had a quite conservative design. The main feature of the exterior was the double radiator grille, and horizontally extended headlights.
In the inner trimming the emphasis was placed on comfort. For the passenger compartment upholstery quality fabric was used. In the advanced package the central console was chromeplated. The main advantages of the car were excellent quality of assembly and a variety of options. In the basic package the driver seat and the steering column were regulated on height. Safety was ensured by two frontal airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and also brake force distribution system (EBD). The system of climate control, seats with folding head restraints and function of heating, washers of headlights were offered as additional options.
Mitsubishi Carisma I generation restyling
In 1999 there was a restyling of the Mitsubishi Carisma model. Changes mainly affected the design of the exterior. In general it became more sportive, and the silhouette of the car was more dynamic. On the front bumper there was a cover made of black plastic. The radiator grille had a chrome frame. The shape of air inlets was changed. Original V-shaped power bulge on the hood became the characteristic of the updated cars. Also the model had modernized lighting equipment. Orange cornering lamps were replaced by white ones.
In comparison with the previous model, the modernized sedan became 40 mm longer, and a hatchback became longer by 25 mm. Car length in both bodies equaled 4 475 mm. The light-alloy disks, door handles and side mirrors painted in body colour were included in the extended package named Elegance.
