Renault 14 model was the small family car and was produced mainly at the plant in Douay, France, from 1976 to 1983. 999 093 cars were released during this time totally.

Production of this model began in 1976. Extremely simple design of a car has an adverse effect on sales outside France. Renault 14 were released only in a five-door hatchback body variant.

Renault 14 compartment turned out to be spacious for such compact vehicle that became possible thanks to transversal placement of an engine and increase in wheel base concerning car length. Interior design of the car received a positive assessment of the press and buyers.

The model had an independent front suspension of McPherson type and a back torsion suspension. Designers placed wheel arches almost at body corners that provided smoothness of the course and stability on the road. The system of a steering of rack type was equipped with a suppressor of vibrations.

In 1979 the design of Renault 14 underwent changes. The car got a new front bumper and directions indicators combined with rectangular headlights. The design of chairs and compartment finishing was also improved.

The producer improved an exhaust system. Some modifications in a basic complete set were equipped with the central lock and window electric regulators. For other modifications these options were additional.

The unsuccessful advertizing campaign prevented sales level of this car from increasing. Production of Renault 14 was stopped in 1983.
