Renault 15 was the sport coupe. The model was in great demand, and in 1972 received the second place at the "European Car of Year" competition. In total about 210 thousand units were released.

The presentation of the serial Renault 15 model took place in 1971 in Paris. The car was designed on the basis of Renault 12 platform.

At the same time sale of the Renault 17 model was carried out. Round headlights instead of rectangular were the main difference from Renault 15.

The car had a pronounced sport style. The radiator grille and headlights were surrounded by the wide chrome plated fringing. The wide air inlet settled down on the cowl. The body was painted in bright colors mainly.

Finishing of spacious Renault 15 compartment was carried out with quality materials. The producer managed to create original interior design which was supplemented by the dials drowned in niches on the dashboard.

The producer equipped Renault 15 with a rigid sport suspension. High sensitivity of steering and brakes provided the ideal controllability. Some modifications in a basic complete set were equipped with the hydraulic power steering, window electric regulators and the central lock.

In 1976 the producer changed the design of the car. The car received enlarged headlights, new bumpers and radiator grille and the updated front directions indicators, but it lost the chrome plated fringing of the forefront of the body.

The producer changed a design of a back door completely and replaced the optics located under it. Quality of a compartment finishing was improved; the car received new chairs and the dashboard. Production of the updated model proceeded till 1979.
