Renault Rapid Kasten is the popular van of the French car maker which had the general roots with the Renault Supercinq model. It was released from 1985 to 2000 at plants in Muabeuge (France) and Palencia (Spain). 1 730 000 copies of Renault Rapid Kasten have descended from conveyors of these plants during the production time.

In November, 1985, sales of the Renault Rapid Kasten van which has instantly won popularity at the food delivering companies began. Sharing a platform with Renault Supercinq, Renault Rapid Kasten cars at the same time possessed a number of specific features (a shape of fenders, a cowl, bumpers).To give a rigity to the design, the engineers made a choice for a body with bearing components made of steel. Two-seater and five-seater vans with the luggage compartment which could be not glazed, half glazed or completely glazed, with two wings doors or back drop side, were offered to consumers. Since 1986 consumers had an opportunity to choose the body lined with sheet iron. There was even a modification equipped with the electric motor, but it did not become popular.

In 1987 the limited Renault Rapid series in the pickup body designed by Durisotti firm has been released.

In 1994 restyling of the model took place and Renault Rapid Kasten vans got the new radiator grille, front and back optics, the enlarged exterior mirrors. As for an interior of the car, dashboard and wheel forms were changed.

In 1997 Renault Kangoo’s entry into the market marked a decline of an era of Renault Rapid Kasten. In 1998 release of a five-seater van was stopped. Production of the model was stopped completely in July, 2000.

The Renault Rapid Kasten van was widespread under the Renault Expresson name in the territory of Europe, and was on sale as Renault Extra in Great Britain.
