Renault Super 5 is the second generation of the Renault 5 model, the best seller car in France from 1986 to 1989. Cars were produced e in two body types — three - and a five-door hatchback. Assembling was carried out at plants in France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and Slovenia.

The model had been produced from 1984 to 1996. Renault Super 5 cars, though had external similarity to the predecessors of Renault 5, however were based on the other platform — a body, the chassis and east-west engine were borrowed from Renault 9/11. New Renault Super 5 (in official documentation it was called Renault Supercinq) was longer and wider than Renault 5, had the big glazing area (by 20%), lower drag coefficient, energy-conserving engines and also less difficult design of the suspender. The wheel base of five-door hatchback was 6 cm longer, than three-door one.

From 1996 to 2002 Renault Express was produced in Uruguay for the South American market.

In 1989 the Belgian body company EBS released Renault Super 5 in a cabriolet body, 1400 copies have been totally made. Renault Super 5 in the pickup body has been presented to the French body studio Gruau and received the name "Belle Île", a little more than 600 copies have been released from 1989 to 1991.

By 1990 the model became considerably obsolete, and it was succeeded by Renault Clio. However release of Renault Super 5 continued in Slovenia till 1996. In March, 1996, declaring cessation of production of this model, the concern has released the limited Renault Super 5 Bye-Bye version (12 000 copies).
