i-CTDi engines: operating characteristics of Honda common rail diesel engines
i-CTDI (Intelligent Common Rail Turbo Diesel Injection) is a 4-cylinder diesel engine produced by the Japanese company Honda Motor Co., Ltd. The engines are provided with the second generation common rail direct fuel injection system and a variable geometry turbocharger. They are notable for their light weight, great dynamic performance and good fuel economy. They are Euro 4 compliant.
The i-CTDI engine was presented in 2003. A proprietary diesel engine had been developed by the Japanese car manufacturer since 1995. The project was led by Kenichi Nagahiro. In 2005 Honda 2.2 L i-CTDi power unit was awarded the title of “International Engine of the Year” in the category of 2.0 to 2.5 litre engines.
