Fiat Campagnola cars are SUVs which were released in 1951-1987. During this period the Italian car maker presented two generations and one restyling of the car. The model went down in history: in September, 1951 Paolo Butti and Domenico Racca on Fiat Campagnola car with the long wheel base established a world record, having crossed Africa from Algiers to Cape Town and back in 11 days, four hours and 54 seconds. This record isn't still broken.

Having inspired by stunning success of the American SUV of the Jeep brand, in 1951 the Fiat company has created the first Fiat Campagnola cars. The model debuted in September at the show in Bari, Italy. Same year the stock production started.

Cars were released in a two-door wagon body with removable canvas top. Initially cars were produced in two modifications: civil (Fiat 1101) and military (Fiat AR51). Release of the first generation of Fiat Campagnola has came to the end in 1973.

In 1974 in Belgrade the Italian producer presented the Fiat Campagnola model of the second generation. In 1976 modification for armed forces of Italy (Fiat AR76) has been released. These cars were made with canvas or hard top, and also on the standard or long wheel base.

In 1979 Fiat Campagnola of the second generation was elaborated. Changes mainly touched upon the technical devices. As a result of modernization, fuel consumption decreased. Cars’ production ceased in1987.

The Fiat Campagnola model was produced by the Yugoslavian company Zastava under the license. The modification of the Fiat Campagnola car was released also by the French engineering company Renault — it was called Renault Campagnola TRM500.
