The Mercedes-Benz GLK Class crossover debuted at the Detroit motor show in 2008. Several months later the stock production began. When developing the car, the company paid considerable attention to the harmful emissions decrease. The cars with the petrol power unit met standards of the Euro-5 standard, and with diesel one— of Euro-4. Common Rail system of injection provided significant improvement of dynamic characteristics of a car.

The four-wheel drive was provided by system 4Matic. The Mercedes-Benz GLK Class basic package included the audio system, the electric drive of front seats, climate control, sensors of rainfall, fog lights, the navigation system. It was possible to order satellite radio and the panoramic hatch.

Strict and esthetic interior design of Mercedes-Benz GLK class was supplemented by inserts made of natural wood and the numerous chrome plated elements. Active head restraints, prestretchers of safety belts, front, side and knee airbags, the ESP and ABS systems were responsible for safety of the driver and passengers.

In 2012 the company presented the updated Mercedes-Benz GLK Class at the Frankfurt motor show. The car has had the new radiator grille, rear-view mirrors, a front and rear bumper, the back metal diffuser and LED lights. The producer adjusted all systems of the crossover and achieved significant increase of dynamic characteristics.

Also the company improved quality of an inner trimming, and LED lights were used for internal lighting. The automatic transmission selector was relocated to a steering column. All electronic units, especially the systems responsible for safety, were updated. Mercedes-Benz GLK Class was equipped also with the Hill Descent Control System and adaptive cruise control.
