Citroën ZX was released from 1991 to 1998. One generation of the model was produced. Citroën ZX took the third place at the "European Car of Year" competition in 1992. Citroën ZX Rallye Raid rally modification won sports competitions repeatedly. Production of Citroën ZX cars was organized in France and Spain.

Release of Citroën ZX started in 1991. The design of Citroën ZX body was developed by the known design studio Bertone. The car had rectangular headlights and an angular shape. In general, the exterior did not differ in something special. Some modifications were decorated with the colour strip surrounding the body at the level of headlights. The passenger compartment differed in the high level of comfort and ergonomics. Rear seats were designed on the sliding platform that allowed to increase trunk volume if necessary. In expensive package leather was used for inner trimming. Also the car had the air conditioner, seats with heating, the electric drive of glasses and mirrors, a washer of headlights, airbags of the driver and passenger.

Initially the model was available only in a body of a five-door hatchback, in 1992 the three-door hatchback went on sale. One year later the five-door station wagon was added to the range of bodies.

In 1995 the design of cars was slightly updated. In particular, the radiator grille was set on cars. The list of options was expanded.

The prototype of Citroën ZX Rallye Raid rally modification was for the first time presented in 1990. From the stock model debuting later, the car differed in expanded wheel arches, a big back spoiler and round searchlights in addition to headlights. The car went on sale in 1991. The car had the increased road clearance and a big back spoiler. All the models of Citroën ZX Rallye Raid were painted in bright yellow color: the team was sponsored by the tobacco company CAMEL. When advertizing of tobacco products was prohibited in France, all the cars were recoloured in red colour. In 1993 there was an updated rally modification which had expanded wheel arches. Citroën ZX Rallye Raid cars repeatedly won sports competitions.

From 1992 to 2014 Citroën ZX cars were produced in China. These cars were released in a body of a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan and in the beginning carried the name Citroën Fukang. Hatchback models were produced till 2003. In 2002 restyling of Citroën Fukang sedans took place. The car had a new name — Citroën Élysée. After restyling of 2008, the car began to be called C-Elysee. Next year production of five-door hatchbacks was resumed.
