The crossover which is released since 2011 is the first model created co-operatively by developers of the Fiat and Chrysler companies. Fiat Freemont cars are produced in Toluca, Mexico.

The effective crossover was presented at the Geneva motor show in January, 2011. Sales began in the spring. The model was built on the Chrysler GS/JS platform. The car had the double trapezoid radiator grille, the chrome plated logo badge, LED headlights and the stylish railing. Both bumpers, door handles and side mirrors were body-coloured, and the windshield had a black mouldings fringing.

This design represented ideal reflection of new style of the joint carmakers. Besides it was characterized by the relief bends of side doors and a front bumper, and also wide pads on the wheel arches.

Today Fiat Freemont cars are presented in five packages. The most popular of them, Urban, includes KeyLess entry system, parking assistant, the ESP and ABS system, cruise control, and also onboard information center. In November, 2011 the Lounge package went on sale. It had leather upholstery of a steering wheel, a blind of baggage compartment, Uconnect Voice Command system of voice-activated control, the hatch with the electric drive, floor mats and a leather upholstery of seats. Also Park Avenue package (since 2012) and Cross package (since 2014) are available in Europe.

Actually the crossover is the restyling of the first generation of Dodge Journey, but in the markets of Australia, Brazil, Europe, China and South Korea the Fiat company positions Freemont as new model.
