Under the Ford Courier name in different years the Ford company released the cars of different classes intended for the markets of Europe, the countries of North and South America, Asia, Australia and Oceania. For the first time the name Ford Courier was used for a van in 1952. It was the car which considerably differed from the modern Ford Courier which was released in 1991-2002 at the plant in Cologne, Germany.

Release of the first generation of Ford Courier was carried out in 1991-1996. The car was designed on the basis of the Ford Fiesta model and borrowed from it the majority of elements of design, in particular, an exterior of a front bumper and an interior. The model was available in a van, station wagon and the pickup bodies.

It was impossible to call the list of options impressive: two airbags, hydraulic power steering, upper luggage compartment, simple audio system and fabric upholstery of the compartment. The load box was separated from a cabin by a metal grille that allowed to heat not only a cabin, but also the whole car.

In 1996 the company released Ford Courier of the second generation. Producers took care of safety of the car: Ford Courier was equipped with anti-lock breaking system (ABS), system of electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), strengthened body arrangement and doors, and also prestretchers of safety belts and an airbag for the driver and passengers were added to the list of options. Streamline lines of a body, roundish headlights, the updated dashboard and a rear bumper gave a modern look to the cars of the second generation.

Ford Courier II cars were released till 1999.

In 1999 Ford Courier of the second generation underwent restyling. The design of an exterior was updated; the shape of headlights, a cowl and the radiator grille were changed. In an internal inner trim more expensive and qualitative materials were used.

In 2002 production of these cars in Europe has been stopped.

Ford Courier model has a very rich history. For the first time this car in a van body was released in 1952, and its production lasted till 1957. Then, since 1972, in Australia, New Zealand and the USA under this brand the compact pickup was released. In 1982 it was decided to stop the release of Ford Courier for the American market. In other countries its production was carried out till 2006.

In 1998, together with release of the fourth generation of Ford Fiesta, Fords Courier in a pickup body was produced in Brazil. In the Republic of South Africa this model was produced under the Ford Bantam name.

The Ford Courier pickup is known also under the Mazda B2200 name.
