Info on VW BORA model - the right selection of spare parts
Volkswagen Bora
Volkswagen Bora was produced from 1998 to 2005. It replaced the Volkswagen Vento model in the car class in the market.
The name "Bora" carries on tradition to name the models of the concern in honor of winds and other atmospheric phenomena. Bora is a cold wind which blows from the continent to Adriatic Sea in the winter.
The car was manufactured at the plants in Germany, Slovakia, China and South America.
History of Volkswagen Bora creation
The Volkswagen Bora model is the fourth generation of Volkswagen Jetta family where each new generation had specific name.
The car is constructed on the basis of Volkswagen Golf IV, but the exterior of the car differs from this model rather strongly. The sedan was presented in 1998, and the presentation of the station wagon took place one year later. Nevertheless, the station wagon did not have popularity therefore its production was terminated within a year.
Volkswagen Bora had a little slanted form of the hood, the rectangular headlights, deepened in the body a little, a trapezoid shape of the radiator grille. Designers considerably improved aerodynamics of the body in comparison with the predecessor.
Designers paid special attention to engines. All modifications were equipped with system of variable valve timing where the time of valve timing can change. Also engineers installed 4Motion system that gave to the back axle driving torque, less by 10%, than to the front axle, thus increasing controllability of the car and preventing skidding and wheel slipping.
Buyers could choose among four available configurations of the model: Basis, Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. All configurations had a set of air bags and anti-lock brake system (ABS) as standard features. Engineers paid special attention to the safety of the car. Passing the New Car Assessment Program crash tests, the car got the maximal five stars.
Because of the high competition in the car class, sales were 10 times less than it was expected. Developers wanted to increase popularity of the model having released the special modifications under the names "Edition", "Pacific", "Sport Edition" and "Special".
In 2000, modification of Volkswagen Bora Hy-motion cars with a hydrogen fuel cell was presented. It was produced in limited number of units.
Slight improvement of the model took place in 2001. Designers changed design of the dashboard, stylized the dashboard and improved the materials in use.
Production of the car continued till 2005 when the new fifth generation of Volkswagen Jetta was released.
Volkswagen Bora in the market of the different countries
At the Chinese market the Volkswagen Bora model had the original name, but in 2006 it was renamed to Volkswagen Bora HS.
Also the Volkswagen Bora car since 2007 was produced in Mexico for the South American market and had the name Volkswagen Jetta IV which in 2011 was changed to Volkswagen Clasico.
In Canada the car was on sale under the name City Jetta.
