Lamborghini Gallardo
Lamborghini Gallardo is the Italian sport car produced from 2003 to 2013. It is considered to be the most popular representative of Lamborghini model range: 14022 copies were released. The model was presented by coupe and roadster bodies.
Model I generation
The presentation of the model took place in March, 2003, in Geneva at the international auto exhibition. Traditionally for Lamborghini, the name of the model referred to bullfight: Gallardo is a Spanish breed of fighting bulls famous for the endurance and aggression. The design of the sports car was developed by Luc Donckerwolke on the basis of a Calà prototype worked by Italdesign Giugiaro. This model differed from other Lamborghinis in its conventional (not scissor-type) doors.
Model I generation restyling
In the autumn of 2005, Lamborghini Gallardo cars received a number of changes caused by critical responses from buyers and press: the exhaust system, suspension, and steering gear were improved.
At the Geneva motor show of 2005 the prototype of Lamborghini Concept S with a soft folding roof was shown. At the end of 2005 in Frankfurt the presentation of Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder roadster took place, its sales started in 2006.
In 2005 a limited series (250 cars) of Lamborghini Gallardo SE were released, two-colour design of exterior and interior (a combination of default black with one of five offered colours) was its distinctive feature. Release of Lamborghini Gallardo Nera was also limited — only 185 cars of opaque black colour were produced.
In 2007 release of Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera took place to demonstrate the sports qualities of production of the auto company. The car was 100 kg lighter than the predecessor and accelerated to 100 km/h in 3,8 seconds (Lamborghini Gallardo needed 0,3 seconds more). It was planned to release 350 cars, however in 2008 production of Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera was stopped on 172 copies.
Two Lamborghini Gallardo cars were at the disposal of the Italian police and were used in emergency situations and for transportation of organs for transplantation.
Model II generation
Release of the much updated second generation of the model is dated 2008 when at the Geneva motor show Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 was presented. Name of the car speaks for itself: 560 is the number of horsepowers, the drive is 4 wheeled. Several months later in Los Angeles the second generation of the roadster was presented.
In March, 2010 the company declared release of Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera — the lightest and the fastest car (acceleration to 100 km/h takes 3,4 seconds) in Gallardo family.
Model II generation restyling
In 2012, at the motor show in Paris, restyling of Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder roadster was presented. Cars had new aerodynamic bumpers and 19-inch light-alloy Apollo discs. The coupe was updated in this way several months later.
At the end of November, 2013, the Lamborghini Company officially terminated production of the model.
