Rover MaestroRover Maestro was produced by Rover Group in 1988-1995. Car manufacturing was established in industrial area of Oxford, England.
Rover Maestro originProduction of this model started in November 1982, but till 1988 this car had been manufactured by Austin Motor Company under the name of Austin Maestro.
Rover Maestro was produced in five-door and two-door van versions. Cars had various basic options. Advanced technology was implemented on all cars – they were equipped with power steering wheel and seatbelts with fixings adjusted up/down. There were a speedometer, a tachometer, a fuel level indicator and a temperature detector. The car was also equipped with a trip computer.
Along with Rover Maestro, production of Rover 200 started since October 1989. Sales of Rover Maestro went down. Austin Maestro took 6th place among the most popular cars in 1984 but in 1989 Rover Maestro was 19th in the list. In 1995, production of this car in Great Britain was finished.
Rover Maestro on different marketsDuring the period of 1983-1991 cars were sold on British market under the name of MG Maestro.
In September 1995, manufacturing was moved to Varna, Bulgaria. In April 1996, car production was finished because of high prices for import utilities and small demand for cars. There were 2000 cars produced in Bulgaria, most of them were exported into other countries including Great Britain.
In 1998, 4 years after end of Rover Maestro production, Chinese tobacco company Etsong got rights for this car model manufacturing. In 2000 production of Etsong Lubao QE6400 Ruby hatchback and Etsong Lubao QE6440 Laird van started at Quingdao factory, China.
In 2003, Etsong sold its machine-building plant to one of the biggest China automaker – FAW Group Corporation. Company continued production of cars built on the platform of Rover Maestro. Hatchbacks were called FAW Lubao CA 6410, vans – Jiefang CA 6440 UA. Since 2008 Rover Maestro vans have been produced by Sichuan Auto Industry Group Company Ltd. Cars got the name Yema SQJ6450.
